Kevin Caslow Sdata Science’s Expertise I received my Masters in Library and Information Science from Kent State University in August 2010. In the summer of 2010 I completed a practicum at Cleveland State University’s Special Collections. I was involved in the selection and appraisal of photos dealing with Akron Ohio. These photos were then digitized, with correlating metadata, and uploaded onto the Cleveland Memory Project’s website. The culmination of this project was a presentation of the findings to the Cleveland Memory Project’s committee. The work that I preformed there can be found at http://www.clevelandmemory.org/akron. My current and previous jobs have centered on one thing: customer service. I pride myself on strong interpersonal skills and being able to talk with anyone. These skills have led me to excel in previous positions. This has happened for one reason; I place the needs of the patron above everything else. They are the main reason that I am there and will receive my undivided attention. The most rewarding aspect of my jobs, past and future, is fulfilling the needs of the patron. During my studies I discovered the importance of Web 2.0 and I found that through certain mediums, Face Book, Twitter, RSS feeds, and blogs (http://caslowpracticumjournal.blogspot.com), the patron now has more access to programs and uses of the modern library. In addition, I am familiar with metadata (VRA Core, Dublin Core and EADs), basic cataloging (LCSH, AACR2, and MARC21), search queries, preservation standards/methods, archives, and research methods. In regards to preservation I know both digital and analog preservation standards. Through my courses at Kent State University I have become familiar with many different computer programs. These include: Microsoft Office, Content DM, OpenOffice.org, Oxygen XML Editor, dSpace, and HTML coding. Along with knowledge of the usage of these programs, I have a basic understanding of German and American Sign Language.
